About me and my blog
I am a sophomore at Drexel University, studying Health Sciences. I have always had a passion for food and trying new dishes and cuisines from all over the world. I love to expand the food I try as much as I can, and I don't shy away from trying new foods.
My passion that inspired me for this blog, is how much of an influence sport science and research has on food, and how athletes' performances are related, and how they correspond with each other. There are high performance athletes who consume foods that are unexpected. Usain Bolt was seen eating chicken nuggets at the 2008 Olympic games before his races. Working out what foods you like, and don't upset you stomach or body, is essential to then formulate a diet around what works for you. Everyone is different and has different needs, but with the help of sport science, researchers can help guide athletes in a better direction, of what might help them perform and recover in a better and more effective way.
Being a Division 1 athlete on the squash team, nutrition is very important. My performances and how I feel physically, will be affected by my eating habits during the week. It is crucial to have a balanced diet, which also includes the healthy fats that come from nuts, fish and avocados. It is important to get enough protein, veg and carbs, but it doesn't have to be strict.
Tailoring your diet to your needs based on the expenditure from your day is a good way to get the right amount of salas, lean meats, rice and potatoes. However, sticking to rice, broccoli and chicken can be boring and bland. Being so restrictive about what you consume is why most people fail at eating healthier because they don't allow for wiggle room, so go back to their old ways of eating.
Personally, I don't eat restrictive and repetitive meals, as I don't enjoy it. When I eat, I want to enjoy the food I am eating and not for it to feel like a chore, and not be excited about what I'm eating. \there needs to be passion and love in the meal, as well as spices and all the other good stuff. As an athlete, I think I have found a good balance between eating healthily, but also getting enough calories in and not feeling guilty about how much I am eating. This has been the case on numerous occasions, and it is a horrible way to feel. I do have a rather large sweet tooth, which can be my worst nightmare, but more often than not I will treat myself to a small bit of chocolate.
